Another board that I'm on recently had a topic that invited people to list five things that they like about themselves. It sounded like a good practice to encourage, so I'm bringing the topic to you all. (I tried it with my residents tonight with limited success) If you wish it to be more AD/Forum focused, list five things you like about yourself as a caregiver.

Five things I like about me:
--My love for chocolate
--Chocolate on my fingers
--Chocolate in my tummy
--Chocolate w/Merlot in my tummy
--I'm a little bit sweet (must be all the chocolate)!

Gosh, thats a hard one Annaberry. Lately there's not much I like about myself in the caregiving field.

I can tell you what I don't like about myself as a caregiver.

1) I'm very impatient, and that makes her days and mine even harder than they should be.

2) I don't like that I wish I didn't have to do this

3) I don't like that my life has changed, and I resent Mom for it.

And 4 and 5, well, I think 1,2 and 3 says it all. I love my Mother with all my heart, and would not have it any other way with her being here. But as far as what I like about myself in the caregiving field, can't think of anything now. I could be a better caregiver, and I hope that one day soon that will change.

Now what do I like about myself in general?

1) I'm a good cook
2) I'm a good grandmother
3) I'm a good wife
4) I'm a good daughter
5) I'm a good mother
6) I'm a good friend

Now of course you'd have to ask my husband, daughters, grandchildren, friends and Mom if they all agree, but I think they
would. Gosh, I just reread this, and it seems I'm really am conceeded huh? But you asked!

1) I love chocolate .

2) I like to write poetry, but I don't publish it.

3) I LOVE cop shows.

4) I love eating food with lactose although I'm lactose intolerant lol.

5) Laundry is one of my favorite chores.

That's about all here lol .

5 things...okay...here we go:
1. I am trustworthy
2. I try to be a good mother
3. I tried to be a good caregiver
4. I have a good work ethic
5. I am a great bartender lol! (so my customers tell me)

A lot harder than it seems at a glance.................but here goes

1) I am extremely loyal
2) I strive to be honest with myself, if not always with others
3) I will keep a cool head in an emergency and not fall apart until it's all over
4) I have always adored seniors and have managed to pass that trait along to my kids
5) As a caregiver I kept my promise to myself and to my mom

5 things I like about me:

1. Taking care of my Mom and being able to fulfill my commitment to keep her with me at home to the very end.

2. Believing in the "humanness" of each of us, in our inherent goodness, in our "connected-ness," and embracing diversity.

3. Commitment to helping others guided by the underlying belief of "first, do no harm," fighting for the underdog.

4. Making others laugh and having really good laughs at myself.

5. Getting my first and only tattoo at age 61.

I am going to try to write one, I've had alot of writers block lately lol. I should write an ode to our poor washer lol!

First off, Joyce W., what kind of tattoo DID you get? I'm still deciding if I want to undergo the needles or just still to the wash off ones...
