(Hope I get the photo posting right)

I went to see Mom yesterday. It was a nice surprise to have her clear eyed and alert. Yes she was still in bed and not dressed at 1230, but she was awake. And not stripping. And she spoke to me. It was just 'yeah' and 'hello' or something like that, but was her voice. And she responded when I asked her questions, rather than just staring at me. And when I put a skein of yarn on her bed and asked her to help me straighten it out, she picked it up and immediately started fussing with it rather than just letting it lay there. :) That's my "old mom".

All that is a much better memory to have than the semi freaky dream I had the other night. I dreamed that I was staying with my mother in the hospital and had fallen asleep on the bench/seat. I woke up to have my mother standing over me, asking me how I was doing. What's so freaky about that you say? My mother hasn't walked in a couple of years and not without a walker or other assistive devices in more time than that. For her to be have gotten out of bed and walked across the room to where I was without me or anyone else hearing her and to still be standing would either have to be a miracle or meant that she was dead. That's what freaky. Weird to say this, but fortunately it was only a dream.

Thank you all for being here and letting me just dump random things like this. You all are the ones who understand that hearing "yeah" from a loved one and watching them play with yarn can be something to celebrate. :) *hugs*

What a blessing to get a glimpse of the woman your mom used to be. Hold onto these times.

"Blessing" is right.
And *hugs* right back at ya.
(Your Mom looks very sweet.)

She sure does look sweet! Thank you for posting the pics, they came out fine. I know what you mean about getting glimpses of the "old mom." That happens every once in a while for me, too.

Oh Anna,

How wonderful! Nothing is worth more than having glimpses of the Mom they used to be. But then you wish it would happen again and again. But I'll take sometimes rather than none at all.

And yes, we do understand, and are thrilled when our fellow caregivers receive even just a little bit of joy out of this terrible disease. And please, just dump anytime you want, cause we sure will dump on you!!!

Jackie
