Lost my car keys after coming out of a store....you never know how alone you are until something like that happens and you are with your LO with AD. After 1/2 hour and 4 trips back into the store, I found them on the floor in the back seat of the car, thank you God.

Went to pick up prescriptions for mom, WELCOME TO THE MEDICARE GAP. This week I need to research drug plans for the open enrollment period--when I signed her up at the beginning of the year she was only taking cholesterol medication and Celexa. So of course I figured she'd never reach the gap. I have to find a better plan for her.

Called brother (keeper of all finances) and told him, he says "well her coverage lasted until November, which is great." I reminded him then that she didn't start Namenda until JULY and this Exelon isn't cheap either.

Let's not also forget the bill collectors calling me beginning at 8 AM til 9 PM every day of the week.

Hi howdy. Sorry you are having such a bad day. I am glad you did find the car keys though. Bill collectors still call on telephones? I definitely would not enjoy that either, nor would I want THAT job! Blessings to you, and hope tomorrow is a good day for you.

I'm glad you got your car keys! I hate losing ours..seems we only have 1 copy. We used to have another copy now that I think of that..and where did that go lol? Ah it's probably under a potted plant or something.

Yikes - losing the car keys is bad enough, but with an ADLO in toe - double yikes. :?

Hang in there, Judy.

I can kind of chuckle about it right now, but during the whole thing she was saying WELL WHAT CAN I DO ABOUT IT over and over...it wasn't helping.

Now she's mad because she was at the pharmacy with me when I picked up the medications and she caught the fact that her prescriptions aren't covered right now. She hates paying "her" money for medical things.

I have a spare set of keys and I'm going to give them to my brother to keep in his car. He drives around all day for work and is usually in the area, that way he can just run them to me if this happens again.

Hi Judy,
Is there any way your Mom's doctor would give you some
more samples for the more expensive meds to help tide you
over a little more til year's end? I know it sounds like a
bandaid on a gusher. Just have as frank a talk as you can
with the doctor...
Good Luck.
Carol

Oh Judy what an awful day!!!!!

Since BFM sin't on any meds now. I can't help you out with the cost of them. If the doctor wont give you samples of the exspensive ones, how about one of the prescription assistance programs?

I know how frustrating the medicare prescription coverage can be. I did all teh paper work and read all the fine lines, beat my head against the wall finally got someone to help me understand the paper work (how could they ever expect an elderly person to understand even the first line of that paper work???) Just to find out that she would be better off not getting the prescription plan thorugh medicare.. her regular health insurance coverage was much better.. ha ha and it is secondary coverage to medicare..

Sending lots of hugs and hope today is better!!!!!!!!

Judy,

Asking for samples is a great idea! My own health coverage isn't very good with prescriptions. A few years ago, my husband had to go on a prescribed antacid - Protonix. Our coverage was useless. So he called the doctor and was given tons of samples. They get so many brought in by the drug reps and the doctor seemed happy to help.

The other thing you could do is check to see if one of the other AD meds is covered. I think you said your mom is on Exelon now. I believe Reminoyl (sp) is similar. Maybe this drug is covered?

Good luck.

It seems your ARRRRGGGGGG Day has entered my household today so you should be off the hook today..

Now as sweet and loveable as my two little furbies are.. I am ready to throttle the youngest one.. grrrrrrrr she has decided that she needs to help Mom with the laundry so all 5 loads of my laundry that I have sorted in my bathroom floor that I want to get done after I finish BFM's laundry is strung out from my room trough my hall living room and into the kitchen and dinning room.. grrrrrrrrr  LOL

Gosh I hope the social worker doesn't pop in today and see my panties laying in the breakfastroom floor.. LOL

JAH, thanks for that link....FYI anyone, Exelon IS part of an assistance program.

For mom, she gets disability and SS and her tiny SS puts her over the top as far as income, so she doesn't qualify for any extra help on her drugs. I am going to call the neuro this week and see if we can get a month of Namenda and maybe some Exelon too...these are her most costly drugs. I was also reading the Medicare manual that just came and I am learning some new things. I just need to do my homework as far as the drug plan formularies and find one that covers her the best.

And YES, how do elderly people on their own understand all of this? It has to be so confusing for them!

Today is better, she slept in and I got some errands done.

Judy glad your day has been better.. now can you PLEASEEEEEEEEEEE fix mine..

please pleas please.. (sad puppy dog eyes).. LOL

Now I am pacing the floor waiting for my daughter to call me, she is headed to the hpsital to be monitored and they are going to decide this afternoon if they are going to induce labor TODAY!!!!!!!!!! She isn't due for 19 more days!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gulp..

I have about wore the buttons off my phone trying to call her to see what is going on only to get her blasted voice mail.. grrrrrrrrrr

For those of you who doesn't know..

My daughter is 19 and I am about to be a GMA for the very first time.. that is if I make it through the stress!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

Needless to say all this waiting isn't making my day go any better!!

Judy,
I had to finally take all the information to BFM's pharmacy and have them explain the diffrent plans to me and explain to me what formula they used to determine what is what as far as the drug plans goes. After about 3 hours we finally figured out that she was on the best plan she could be on just through her basic insurance company and not doing the medicare drug plan.

Now she is on Hospice so medicare covers everything that she takes. So that takes care of that..

Reading that book and trying to figure all of that out really made me feel stupid though and I have a degree with a high grade point average when I was in college that said I wasn't stupid.. ha ha

Hope your day has been better Denise. Wow, that is very cool becoming grandma for first time! Nothing like it I'll tell ya. I was in the delivery room when my first gbaby was born, and it was so exciting. Do you know if the baby is a boy or a girl? Has the name been chosen yet? Babies are so sweet. 19 days early is not bad at all. My second gbaby was 7 weeks early, and tiny...but is an 8 year old blonde haired blue eyed beauty now! PLEASE keep us posted on the arrival of the dear blessing! Try not to wear all the numbers off of the phone, you will want to be able to call everyone and brag when the time comes grandma!!!

For those in the medical gap situation, try
[url]www.needymeds.com[/url.

It is a website operated by the various pharmacutical companies that is dedicated to low income patients. If you can get through the mountains of paperwork, the help is very worth it...but don't be scared off. it is tedious...every prescription has you completing 3-4 page apps, having your doc sign off, etc., but if it lessens your load for meds, it's so worth it.
