:D Hope everyone has a Happy New Year!! My husband and I are going to try to go to a fun and games night at the church tomorrow night. Mom will be staying with my other sister so we will see how that goes. Mom has taken another "dip" in the last month and more often than not doesn't know where she is and always wants to go home. I try to very calmly tell her she is home, sometimes it registers and sometimes it doesn't. Here is hoping we all have Uneventful new year transitions.

Linda,
Happy New Year to you also and to everyone here. I also hope that things will be uneventful with us all. Seems like before the new year has even started, my mom also is starting many changes. She repeats more often than ever. Sometimes I've actually have timed her to see how long she'll remember a certain thing. It's been as short as 30 seconds. Boy, there is alot to come yet huh?

So far mom only wants to go home when she's angry with me. And she also says what a big mistake she made coming to my house. Seems like she remembers that!! But what she doesn't remember is that she didn't have a choice. I just moved her out. And I won't be reminding her of that anytime soon!

WOW! Has it really been a YEAR, since we three our News Year's Eve "Galla?" Did I really have that much energy, last year??? LOL! That was fun! Have a safe New Year. I think I'll just stay home, with this weather, & these roads, and this particular Holiday? Wild Horses couldn't drag me....

I did have a best case scenerio, but didn't have a date. "Weebee's" a new Restaurant, exactly .5 miles from my house, is having a four course, two seating dinner party, that sounds fantastic, with four wines, etc. Anyway, the 7:30pm filled up fast, and I snoozed & loosed!

I wanted to wish everyone a Happy New Year too. We are also in a decline - the short-term memory is getting VERY short, mom's now forgetting how to do things she always knew how to do out of habit (buttoning, making coffee). We will be moving from buttoned pajamas to nightgowns at night.

I have also noticed that when eating, she is holding her fork or spoon just like a child would - in a fist. I'm guessing it may be more stable that way. I tried to buy the heaviest silverware I could because I know it helps.

I'm going to get a nice break Jan 5 when I go to Las Vegas for a few days. Mom will be staying with my brother. I'm waiting until the night before to say anything and I know she's going to be up all night that night. :(

Oh, I hope you can enjoy your break! Maybe if your Bro would take Mom more often??? I know, fat chance. I called my Mom tonight to wish her a "Happy New Year" and she started describing what she was wearing, starting with her slippers. This is what she will do these days, is to describe her surroundings. It just dawned on me, it is because her short term memory is "SO" short, almost nonexistant, that the "NOW" she can describe. She said they were cute, but she doesn't know where they came from (me, 3 weeks ago) but she never remembers where she got what, or when.

Oh well, as long as she likes them, and they make her happy! They had to replace the ENTIRE furnace today, and she was laughing, and saying it was cheap, but not meaning it. I bet Tom is not laughing, poor guy. I am sure it cost a bundle, because the old one was 50 years old, so the new one? Who knows, but I said "Mom, you must have a heater, at least you didn't need a new car?" and she just *Giggles*

Oh, oh, maybe the heater guy noticed the horrible condition of that house? And called APS? I know, I am a dreamer!

Am I the only one that has a loved one that thinks EVERYTHING is funny? I guess better than being a sour-puss! :D

Hope everyone had a safe and sober New year.
Actually this is one holiday that I always thought was a bit silly. I was in bed by 11:30. :)

Very quiet new years here at our house. I was surfing the internet and hubby was playing his damn video game, lol. We kept an eye on the clock, poured a couple glasses of champagne and toasted to the new year and went back to what we were doing. I quit the computer after about an hour and went in to sit with the dog and watch tv and before I knew it, it was 4:30am and I had fallen asleep on the couch. Hubby was still playing the game! Oh well, We were safe, off the streets and I was all nice and comfy in my fleece pj pants, flannel shirt and slippers.

On the other hand, the city police had their hands full with bar fights, domestic calls and a few car accidents, from what we heard on hubby's fire radio. And in a nearby town, a guy was running around naked, hopped up on crack. He is in the ICU today, I heard from one of the cops who came into the store tonight. What a way to start out the new year. Makes me glad we stayed home and avoided the foolishness altogether.

Our game night went great and we had a whole evening out. It was a long time coming and the best.
