If you (and I have a high girly voice) can't hear me say hello or goodnight and I'm standing right next to you....you need a hearing aide.

If you're in the basement and I can hear you yelling every word on your cellphone, you need a hearing aide.

If you complain the tv is too quiet but when I turn it on I get blown through the wall...you need a hearing aide.

How my husband sleeps through this...he's a mystery lol!

FIL..pretty much needs a hearing aide lol.

Hmmmm thought I responded to this one.. I know I typed it.. that dang poof button must work here too.. ha ha

Now as I was saying.. if Hubby can sleep through all that noise he either 1. has ear plugs hidden away and not telling you about them or he needs a hearing aide as well.. LOL

I do agree that FIL probably needs a hearing aide.

Maybe your girly voice is an octive to high for him to hear!!!!! Or maybe when you are talking to him he has selective hearing!!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds like my husband (I mean the selective hearing part!). No really, the TV blasts me out at times, might be time for a check on the old ears!

How funny this topic comes up. We have just found out that my mother has very severe hearing loss to high frequencies (women's and children's voices) and she needs hearing aides.

She doesn't want them because they are so expensive, but the doctor has talked her into getting 1 to try and then seeing how it goes. Still doesn't want one, but it's not her decision anymore. :D

We are getting the $ together to do it, who knew hearing aides were so expensive?

I wear hearing aids.

Believe me, they are no picnic to get used to or wear. They are never like your natural hearing. I started wearing them when I was about 39 years old. People that need them literally do not know what they are missing. Until I wore hearing aids, I never knew the computer made sounds. I didn't know the turn signals "ticked".

They do not help me with the TV much. The best thing for that is to buy Sony headphones. I mean the TV can be full blast but I still can't make out what the people are saying. It just sounds like one big noise to me. The headphones are really best for TV viewing.

You see, most people think that a person that has trouble hearing is struggling with just volume. But actually, clarity of sound is a bigger problem. People can usually hear the correct vowel, but they can't tell the difference between a "b" or a "v" or a "d', etc. in words.

If you are having an old person fitted for hearing aids, you need to be very patient with them while they adjust. And for their sake, keep them away from screaming kids. God, that sound goes right into a person's brain! It is awful!

Every day, when I would finish work and get in my car to go home, the first thing I did was to get those doggone hering aids out of my ears. After hours of wearing them, you just want to go nuts.

:) Thanks for the replies!

I think FIL just doesn't want to admit he needs them. He has had his ears flushed at the hospital, pretty much anything and everything to avoid the truth. Today he wasn't so bad but some days I swear he's using a megaphone lol.

Hubby's uncle has earplugs and I have to wave at him to get his attention..I think he just turns them down so he doesn't hear girl talk :D.
