This morning I was going over some of the threads and came across yours regarding the medicare gap for precriptions.
About 5-6years ago, someone told us about a program called Circuit Breaker/Illinois Care Rx. I filled out a form for Mom, and she's been getting it ever since.
She pays $2 for generic, and $5 for brand. One she pays $15, as there is no generic.
There also is a gap, and she only got to it once. And then she paid 20% of the precription price.
They base it on income. We took some of her savings and put it under our names so she wouldn't have too much under her name.
She also receives SS and a pension. It seems like they count that most of all as income and not so much the savings.
Anyhow, the website is cbrx.il.gov/
Now I know your not in Illinois, but in Michigan. But see if you can google the Dept. of Ageing in Michigan, and see if theres a similar program.
We also charge Mom rent, and that helps too on what she has to pay.
Let me know. If I get a chance, I'll try to look something up for you too.
But in the meantime, the samples of meds are the best idea. Keep asking for them, they have plenty from their reps.
