Hubby and I were sitting on the porch, MIL came to ask us a question and then closed and locked the porch door on us. Problem is she left the house to meet up with FIL and we didn't notice she locked us out.

EVERY door was closed and window (MIL's newer obsession as well as unplugging the dryer) so we were stuck. BIL of course wasn't home the one time I needed him so we were outside without shoes stuck out of our own home.

Thank you Lord Hubby remembered they were at a local party so we walked a mile and a half (we found some shoes outside, good thing Hubby wears his dad's size and I wear MILs lol) and we went and got a housekey from FIL.

Being it's "that time" for me this month and all, poor Hubby got an earful and then some from me on the way home :(. Honestly, I said some downright horrible stuff. After I cooled off and chilled we're always keeping a housekey with us at all times from now on.

Dementia just sucks, it never lets up. We feel this bad I can't imagine how it must be for MIL. I love her alot and I feel awful about my outburst, I'm glad she wasn't around to hear it.

Thanks for letting me vent, this forum is such a godsend.

Katrina

I'm so sorry Katrina, yes, Dementia does SUCK! I posted pictures on my www. site listed below, of Tom's Huse, where my Mom lives, and where I HAVE-TO-STAY when I visit my Mom! Yes, Dementia does suck! If my Mom hadn't gotten ill, she wouldn't have run off with a stranger, lost the 2,500 sq.ft. five bedroom house, I grew up in, and then lost the Life-Estate of a Condo, worth $400,000.00. Now, when her current husband dies (he is 90!) she will be homeless, and EVERYBODY, just sat in the bleachers, and watched this all unfold? It is mind boggling to me, and heart-breaking, all at the same time. :o

I get locked out habitually and I've used the spare outside MANY times. Not once has Laurette admitted to locking me out! Closing and locking (if possible) every door, window, cupboard, drawer, etc is one of her obsessions. If there is a lid it must be on, if there is a cap it must be screwed, if there is something on the counter it must be put away, on and on and on. It doesn't matter if I just took it out of the fridge, or just opened the cupboard, or want some air. Everything must be put away, covered, closed, latched, or sealed.

Ultimately, though, I'm just thankful her obsession is not the opposite. Imagine how irritating and totally unsafe it would be if she needed everything opened and unlocked all the time! I'll take what I can get.

Kat,
I always had a spare key hidden outside for that reason. I never had to use it for that but I have used it because I locked myself out. It comes in handy for the kids when they stop by and I'm not home. Maybe it's time to find a good outside hiding place.

Oh Katrina - how awful!! Good thing you had extra shoes to wear! What a site that would have been to walk in at a party shoeless. Although I could think of other things that would be worse not to have on! LOL

And I have to say, I sure feel better knowing that I'm not the only one that has those outbursts, and for much less than you did, believe me. I'm sure hubby understood as if it hadn't been you that had the outburst, I think he may have eventually.

take care, and keep that key with you at all times. And vent, vent, vent my friend!!

Thanks everyone for their replies!

MIL was away with BIL for almost a week, ah quiet. Now she's home and like AHHHHH all over the place. So it begins again  lol. I think she was embarressed that she locked us out because she avoided us for a good bit. I don't know if she even remembers now.

We're definitly getting extra housekeys! Funny two weeks ago she wouldn't lock the doors and now everything must be closed. Never a dull moment.

Thanks again!

Kat
