Oh Lord, my mom stares at her hands constantly also, not because there is anything wrong, but it's like she doesn't recognize them. She is also a picker - constantly picking at her ears, nose, clothes, whatever. I don't have any suggestions to offer, I am at a loss with this also.

It's almost like our LO's become obsessive-compulsive. We had a terrible time keeping Old Navy from scratching his scalp... we had such severe infections because of his habit that the skin doctor couldn't tell which sores were cancers and which were just infected. By the time we finally got his head cleared up, he had his fall and died just 3 days later. At least he would have looked good if we had had a funeral.... SIGH.

I understand that, mom scratches her scalp too but she says it itches. There is so much about this disease that just baffles me.

Linda, try changing her shampoo to a moisturizer or maybe her scalp just needs to be brushed a bit. One of my 'ladies' that I care for gets cradle cap and would scratch her head raw. Now all of us make sure to brush her hair for at least 10 minutes in the morning and then again before she goes to bed for the night.

 I already use a mild shampoo and conditioner as well as brush her hair in the am. I think it is just a habit with her. Scalp looks fine but she is shedding skin like crazy. Flakes like a dust cloud.
