Well, my Mom's is just plain gone! I'm doing something very exciting tonight, and the little girl in me, is doing loop-d-loops. I am going to go see the World Famous "Lipizzanner Stallions" just less than a mile, from my home. I got a front row, gold-circle seat, just this morning. Anyway I wanted to Share-The-Joy, and check in on Mom, so I called her.

We mostly talked about the horses, and how special these are, and then about whether my sister was coming, if they went to Church last night, etc. I guess I just answered my own question "TOO MUCH INFORMATION!? At the end of our 5 minute converstion, she says "Are you going?" "Ya Mom, I'm going" I don't say "I just told you, and that is why I called you?" of course.

Anyway, she still knows & loves me, and that has got to be enough.

I checked out the website. Those horses are beautiful animals.

I remember when my mom's memory was starting to go on the fritz. It's when we truly knew something was not right, among another strange things she was doing that were so out of character for her. It was the start of non-stop repeating and the look in her eye when we would tell her something and it all seemed so brand new, like she had never heard it before. Other things, she could retain, like how to reupholster furniture, of all things. She could explain it to you like she had been doing it for years. I remember when I was in the middle of remodeling my daughter's bedroom/guestroom and I wanted her ideas for colors. She and I had lengthy discussions about that but then she couldn't remember if she had taken her pills 5 minutes before.

I know how badly this is hurting you and I am sorry. All I can tell you is to enjoy your mom for who she is while she is here with you, even if it isn't the quality that you wish it was. Remember all those times she tells you she loves you and when you get the urge, call her and talk to her. Hang on to every word she says. She may not remember it but you will, and it will be priceless memories for you in the years to come.

My heart breaks for you.

My mom was always the first person I would call if I was excited about something too. This disease is so cruel the way it takes our loved ones from us and yet leaves them there to make it harder.
I went to see the stallions in Austria in the late 60's and it was something I will never forget. It was the high point of that vacation.
I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Have fun.

I like shows like that. A little off topic, but has anyone ever seen this show about these crazy genetically "selected" cows? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nmkj5gq1 ... re=related

Oh Sky, I'm so glad you get to go see the Lipizzanner Stallions, they are amazing. 2 years ago someone from work gave my husband some tickets so I took my girls and my mom, it was WONDERFUL!!!! You'll love it, the beauty of God's creation is so evident as you watch them. Let us know how it goes.

Sky,
Just enjoy every minute you can talking to your mother. She may not remember everything, but somewhere inside I still believe they know more than they are able to let us know.

Enjoy the show, also.

Thanks you guys, so much. I didnt cry then, but I could now. Just beause of your kindness, and understanding. I also feel like a *wimp* because things with her, could be sooooo much worse. She is still up and about, is not incontinent. A lot of things to be grateful for, but sometimes, I just REALLY miss my Mom, already. I can't even imagine, once she is gone. I don't think about it too much. One day at a time, right?

N.Mc.
