I brought Bill home today. He was at the NH for 5 days. I took 5 changes of clothes, pants, shirts, t shirts ad socks. In 5 days they managed to lose 3 pants, 2 shirts, 3 t shirts and 3 pairs of socks and 1 of his slippers.

When he goes to respite, I take his medicine in for them to give him. He takes 1 ativan daily, I took 12 pills in; He had 6 left when I picked him up. 25mg of seroquel: He takes 4 a day (I take enough for oe extra day. I took in 24, He brought home 17. 100 mg seroquel one a day, took 6 brought home 3. Sythroid one a day, took in 6 brought home 6.

I guess if they wanted to put up with him not taking the seroquel, that's their problem, But to not give him his seroquel the entire week is uncalled for.

I will be calling hospice and the NH administrator first thing on Monday.

Bill has gone to respite 8 times and this is the first time I felt like I had to go check on him. I caught them messing up on the meds at lunch time once but evidently they messed up everytime.

I think I will call hospice right now and tell them what happened.

I meant to say to not give him his synthroid for the entire week is uncalled for.

I just called hospice and they said they would make sure to put this in their records so they don't recommend this place to anyone else.

Surprises do happen. The driver that brought Bill home just stopped by with all of his missing clothes and his one slipper. Only missing one t shirt and two and a half pairs of socks.

I called the director of nursing, she call the nurse to find out what went on with his meds. They said they ordered his meds from their pharmacy 30 days supply of synthroid, both seroquels and that is what they gave him. Now they will be sending a bill for the meds they ordered. She said they didn't know I'd brought his meds in. If the didn't know, why did they use his ativan and some of his seroquel? They were all together in a zip lock back. They had to have opened the bag to take his ativan out along with the the seroquel they used.
I'm anxious to see what hospice says about this.

More surprises. The director of nursing called back to see if the nurse had called. I told her yes. She said she had seen me at the facility everyday and wondered what I thought. She did assure me that Bill got his meds and that if I got a bill for the meds they ordered to let her know and they would take care of it.

I told her that this was the first time I've felt like I needed to go see Bill everyday he was in respite and she wanted to know why. I told her that the second day he was there, they hadn't changed him until noon and he was in a dirty diaper from the night before. About the med mix up where they were going to give him the wrong strength of med, then about finding him rolling around in the hall this morning with no shoes or socks still in a hospital gown and a dirty diaper.
She apologized and said she would speak to the administrator on Monday. And if I wanted to use their facility again she would make sure this didn't happen again. I told her I would have to think very hard before I'd ever bring him back there.

I'm so sorry Joyce, like I said, on the phone, you really need to turn them in to a higher authority. This is COMPLTELEY unacceptable, especailly about the meds. Can someone help me out here? I know there is a State Director, or Social Services, or someone that over-sees Nursing Homes, and supposidly makes sure they follow certain guidelines & standards. I do know they are stricter than Assited Living. I think I heard somewhere that Assisted Living is accountable to no one???

Turn them, in. I am pretty sure three strikes like this one, and they would lose their license, or I sure hope they would.

I would be absolutely livid!!!! And I don't believe anything that nurse said. Why would they order a 30 day supply of his meds when he was going to be there 5 days. And if they did, then why weren't you given whatever they didn't use? LIARS!!!!!

When the nurse called she said I could come in and pick up the unused meds, because I would be getting a bill for them. The director of nurses said to send the bill to her and they would pay for them

Once again you handled this situation with class and cool-headedness. I know you hear this frequently but you really are a wonderful advocate for Bill. I truly admire you.

Thanks Snick,
I just want him to be cared for when I take him someplace. He can't stand up for himself so I do it for him.

Joyce,

Definitely not a place for Bill to be. Thank God you're a wonderful advocate for Bill. I can't even imagine the other people that are there that don't have what Bill has in you. Too bad you can't let the other families know about this. I would also have been livid and not believe anything that they tell you. And whatever you do, do not pay that bill!

Jackie

There is no way I will pay the bill.
Today I will call the Director of Nurses back and tell her I want to see the meds they ordered. I want to see if they ordered them and how many of their pills they used. I know how many I took and how many I brought home. If they ordered synthroid for 30 days there should only be 25 left because they didn't use any of what I took. I brought back 13 extra seroquil, so they should have 13 less than what they ordered.

She will be my first call this morning. Also I want to see if she did talk to the administrator like she said she was going to.
