I love MIL but her voice is sometimes so shrill she can remove bark from a tree lol.

Is that part of AD, or just her?

My favorite thing is she isn't hard of hearing but she screams WHAT really loud if you say something...like she's peed off at you all the time.

"tis time to break forth the prunes I believe :D

LOl Kat. I've noticed my mom is also having problems in this area recently. It's as if she can't control the volume or something. I assume it's part of the AD because when she shrills to call for me, it's when she's really excited about something. For example:

The other day she answered the phone. My husband and I were having a cup of coffee on the front porch - yes, flinty, I also have a porch  - and she shrilled my name out the front door. Scared the heck out of me. I thought the whole house was ablaze!

Thanks for the reply!

You know I never contributed her voice to AD until just thinking about it today. (I'm having one of "those" moments again lol.) Her AD kicked in about a year after I had married Hubby..and in that first year she had a more quiet voice. It makes sense!

Same here, she's loud if she thinks we're talking about her or if she wants to say something. My mom actually heard her while on the phone with me and couldn't believe how loud she gets.

LOL! I understand that! When she first started it we always thought she was sick or had broken something. Nope..for the most part she wondered where "I" hide the pots or pans...or whatever mystically went missing lol.

BFm was always soft spoken and quiet.. but geshhhhh she went through a stage where she also screeched (loudly I might add).

It didn't matter what it was she was saying it was like the sky was falling and she became henny penny and had to screech it to everyone within ear shot..

Now she is in a stage where we are lucky if she says 3 words a day, she does grunt often.. Her 3 words are usually either NO! or Dog Sh*&! Not sure where the 2nd one came from .. ha ha and was a big surprise when she started using it!!!!!!!!!!

To be honest I sort of miss the screeching.. at least I knew she was physically ok then.. now I just have to guess.

I remember if I was in a different room than Helen she would start screaming HELP, HELP. I would run as fast as my fat little legs would carry me thinking something had happened, only to find her sitting there, wanting something to drink or the like. I would be panting away in a state of panic and she would be sitting in her recliner very relaxed.

I understand about the yelling help...MIL did it once just to get Hubby to help with things out of the oven. She doesn't cry wolf very often anymore though.

I've noticed she won't screech if she's tired..if it's earlier in the day though she'll take off the first layer of skin lol!
