What rights do I have to see my father who has been given a time limit on life and who resides with my sister? She allows all other siblings to call and come over except for me and has threatened to have me arrested if I step on her property.

What can I do?? As per the suggestions given to me, it is not so easy to talk to my sister. I have tried being nice to her and work things out. But I have no idea why this is not going good.

Please advise.

Thanks in advance,
Hannahh

Welcome Hannah,
If there is no legal reason for you to NOT see him, well, there is no reason, and you should have every right. Do you care to share your Sister's reasoning for keeping you away? Threatening to have you arrested is pretty severe.

I did read the other suggestions. IF your Sister is a lost cause, can another Family member help? Perhaps they could stay with your Father, have your Sister go somewhere else, and you visit with him? Not sneakily, of course, but arranged WITH Sister. Do your other sibs give you any insight as to why she is keeping you away?

If she is absolutely uncooperative, you may have no choice, but to get legal advice. If you are no threat to your Father, I can see no legal way for her to keep you away.

Welcome Hannah,

I agree with both of these suggestions and would add my support in asking another one of you siblings to help you out in this. However, if push comes to shove I would seek help from your Adult and Aging office, mediation, or an attorney. These solutions however take time that you may not have. You may just have to bite your lip and tell your sister that you are sorry and ask her to forgive you. Let us know what happens...
