Hello everybody,

I'm sure you're all aware of the two wonderful films "Groundhog Day" and "50 first dates". I'm also sure that all of us here can relate to them in so many ways! Just for fun I'm posting a little survey to see which of the two you relate to the most and why.

If you haven't seen them both, by all means go out and rent them tonight! They're both great.

Jezza,
You have to tell me what Groundhog Day was about before I can vote.

I've never seen Groundhog Day. I tried to watch 50 First Dates but it just drove me crazy, so I didn't watch the whole thing.

I voted for "Groundhog Day" because I often refer to that movie, to describe my Mom's life now. Yesterday does not exist for her, or even this morning. That is exactly why she can wear the same out-fit or socks, for months, because every day, is a new day! Her long-term memory is still, maybe even more so, crystal clear, that rather amazes me, and I am in it, so very grateful! :D

You know, there is another movie like these two but don't remember the name. It is about a boy who re-lives Christmas day over and over until he figures out why. I bet we all feel like we are caught in a never ending loop. The same questions, same clothes (I can relate Nancy) same complaints, every day. I try very hard to do something different everyday just to break things up for me. I don't think mom even notices anymore.

Ground Hog Day....I'm in the same clothes, same conversations department. Every night I'll ask mom what was good about today and the same answer "nothing." So I go through a list of good things (good dinner, something good on TV) and she ends up agreeing that today was good. :)

Linda,
What a nice thing to do for your Mom at night. I might try that. I say good morning to mom, and she says, Whats so good about it. Maybe I'll try the night thing instead.

Jezza,
Gosh, I guess any movie that relates in some way to what our loved one's and us are going through I can relate to. Funny how I've never thought about those movie's before in relation to AD until you brought it up. I'm sure as Linda did, we'll all start thinking of other movies that we can relate to in connection with AD.

Nice poll to start Jezza. Thanks for getting our minds thinking, as we could all use that!

Jackie

Hello! Shaye here!
I'm going through and deleting emails, (from 2007) and found this site again. Yea!

The last several months have been like Groundhog Day for me, personally, I get stuck in a loop dealing with all the paper work & phone calls with beuracratic (?) dealings with my mom's death.

But since I am not a 24/7 caregiver, I think 50 First Dates re ALZ because of the others involved that learn to accept and cope with the person with the 'problem'. And the difference between keeping everything the same and reminding the person of the present each day.

What an interesting post!
Take go*d care, Shaye
