A few years ago my daughter gave my parents a beautiful scrapbook to put their pictures in. The kind that you need to get those little black corner tabs and stick them to the corners of the pictures. They were always going to fill it with their favorite photos but never got around to it. It bothered my daughter when she would go over to their house and see it unused.

I have the scrapbook in storage and I was thinking of filling it with pictures of my daughter with her grandma and grandpa to give to her at Christmas. She adored them and they her (she was their only grandchild) and I just thought it would be neat for her to have pictures of her and her grandparents to be able to look at and know how much she was loved by them.

Do you think this gift would be okay or maybe upsetting to her? Any thoughts about this?

Snickers,

It would be the perfect gift - one that can be passed down through the generations. What a wonderful way to cherish memories and preserve family history.

First page - a photographic family tree: a photo of your parents >>>>then a photo of you and your daughter's dad >>>>then a photo of your daughter.

Also, if you have individual pictures of several generations (such as great-grandmother, grandmother, you, and your daughter), you might consider having them copied in black and white or the brown tone so they will all look uniformly dated and use those as a grouping on the second page. You might also want to include date of birth and date of death, place of birth, and a short bio or 2 or 3 interesting tidbits or both of those pictures on the back of the page.

If you can provide dates and a bit of information about each photo (location, date, etc.) you use, your daughter will have a pictorial family history album, which in later years will prove to be invaluable in any kind of genealogy search. But for now, it is a fantastic way honor their relationship. Just an idea.

Joyce

Snicks,

I think the scrapbook would be a great idea for your daughter. I really like Joyce's idea's too on how to start it out.

Yes, probably at first your daughter might seem upset with tears. But I have a feeling, the way you have just described the relationship with her and your parents, that they will be tears of joy. Go for it!!

What a wonderful idea! That gives me something to work on for my own daughters, nieces and nephews for next year Christmas! Heaven only knows how many pictures are in this house that need to be organized, etc.
